Court grants GH¢350,000 bail each to 14 arrested over galamsey at Akyem Muoso

The Koforidua Circuit Court B has granted bail to 14 people arrested for galamsey at Akyem Muoso in the Eastern Region have been granted bail in the sum of GH¢350,000 each.

Each suspect is to provide two sureties, one of whom must be justified with movable property.

The individuals were arrested on Thursday, May 15, 2025, by the Eastern South Regional Police Command during an operation at the mining site.

They were subsequently arraigned before the court on Friday, May 16.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service noted that a pump-action gun was retrieved from one of the accused, Zuberu Nuhoho, during the arrest, but he failed to produce documentation.

Two excavator control boards were also recovered from the site, which police say forms part of their ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the region.
