Court grants farmer bail for threat of public officer

Mankranso (Ash), Oct 16, GNA- A 40-year-old farmer was on Tuesday granted five million cedis bail by the Mankranso district Magistrate’s court for threatening a public officer.

Kofi Banahene pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on October 21. Police Inspector Carl Michael Adjeng told the court that on September 22, Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie, the Environmental Health Officer for the Pokukrom sub-district went on his daily inspection of the town. He said in the course of his inspection, the officer saw faeces behind a house and contacted a member of the town’s unit committee to assist him identify the landlord.

Inspector Adjeng said while the environmental officer and the unit committee member were in consultation the accused went to them and rained insults on the environmental officer.

He said without uttering a word, the environmental officer reported the incident to the chief of Pokukrom, Nana Opoku Barima but the accused followed him to the chief’s house and insulted the chief. Inspector Adjeng said Nana Opoku Barima, therefore, reported to the mankranso police but the accused went into hiding until he was arrested last Sunday.
