Court grants farmer bail

Nkawie (Ash), June 29, GNA – The Nkawie Magistrate Court last Friday granted a 42-year-old farmer of Kofi Nyamekrom, near Nyinahin, bail in the sum of 10 million cedis when he appeared before it for causing harm, threatening and possessing a gun without permit. Nicholas Kwadwo Adjei, who pleaded not guilty, will re-appear on July 20, 2004.

Police Inspector G.K. Letsah told the Court, presided over by Mr Beresford Safo Acquah, that in February this year, Nana Owusu Bempah, Chief of Akorabourkrom, bought 34 palm trees from Adjei at 200,000 cedis and made part payment towards the purchase.

However, on May 26, this year, Adjei invited the Chief and told him that he would no longer sell the palm trees.

The Court heard that Adjei’s decision not to sell the palm trees to the Chief led to a disagreement between them. It later degenerated into a quarrel during which Adjei hit the Chief with the butt of a gun he was holding and threatened to kill him.

Inspector Letsah said the Chief made a report to the police, which later retrieved a shotgun from the room of the accused with no documents covering it.
