Court grants businessman 25 million cedis bail for fraud

Sekondi, Dec. 08, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Friday granted Stanley Kwesi Opoku Sono, a businessman, 25 million cedis bail with a surety to be justified for allegedly defrauding Ernest Abekah Aidoo, an unemployed in the sum of 12 million cedis under the pretext of securing a Canadian visa for him.

Sono pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on December 18.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Andam Okyere said the accused collected the passport of Aidoo and the money between October and November this year to secure a Canadian visa for him.

He said the accused was unable to secure the visa for the complainant at the agreed date and gave many excuses and after several attempts to retrieve the money and the passport had failed, the complainant reported the matter to the Police and the accused was arrested.

The prosecutor said the accused admitted collecting the passport and the money from the complainant and had given the passport and the money to one Kwesi Appiah who lived in Accra but Appiah could not be traced.

He said after investigations the accused was charged with the offence.
