Court grants bail to Latvian national in assault case

Mihail Laricevs, the Latvian engineer who assaulted a military officer was on Tuesday granted a bail of GH?10,000 with two sureties to be justified.

Laricevs was remanded into custody last Friday for allegedly slapping the Takoradi Air force Station Second-in-Command.

The accused, who is facing an assault charge pleaded not guilty.

The court ordered that his passport be seized until the determination of the case.

Presenting the facts of the case, Chief Inspector Alice Parker Wilson told the court presided over Mr. Charles Bamford Nimako that, Laricevs was holding a cigarette and a lighter in his hands when he was about to board a military aircraft at the Takoradi Airport to Accra.

The prosecutor said the complainant asked him to put the items into his luggage but the accused became offended and slapped him.

The court adjourned proceedings to September 5, for further hearing.
