Court gives landlord defaulting landlord ultimatum

Nkawie (Ash), Nov 4, GNA – The Nkawie circuit court last Friday gave a landlord a two-day ultimatum to pay his property rate of 300,000 cedis he owed the Atwima-Nwabiagya district assembly or serve four-month prison sentence in default.

Samuel Asenso, the landlord, who pleaded guilty will, in addition pay 400,000 cedis fine.

Mr. Tetteh Annan, the Atwima-Nwabiagya district assembly prosecutor told the court, presided over by Mr. Noble Nkrumah that Asenso failed to pay his accumulated property rate of 300,000 cedis from 1996 to 2005.

He said the accused in spite of several demand notices failed to honour his tax obligation and was therefore issued with a summons for his arrest.
