Court fines student for impersonation

Kumasi, Nov. 11, GNA – A 19-year-old student of the Valley View University, who was caught writing the recent November/December Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) for his brother, was on Monday fined 1.8 million cedis by a Kumasi circuit court for impersonation.

Prince Elisha Bonsu, who pleaded guilty to the charge, will serve 18 months imprisonment in default.

The court also bonded Bonsu over to be of good behaviour for two years.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Janet Oseiwaah told the court presided over by Mr Adutwum Mmorosa that, the accused was caught writing the recent November/December SSSCE for one Samuel Kwaku Marfo believed to be his brother, who was indisposed during the examination period. She said Mr C. K. Boateng, the complainant, who was a supervisor at the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Hall, one of the centres for the examination on October 20, this year, was going round the hall with the photo album of the candidates and on reaching Bonsu, saw that the photograph on the form did not match with the accused’s face. Chief Inspector Oseiwaah said this led to the arrest of Bonsu who, confessed during interrogation that he was not the candidate and that he had come to write the paper for his brother who was sick. She said the accused was therefore charged with the offence.
