Court fines six persons for operating illegal lotto

Kumasi, Feb 1, GNA-A Kumasi circuit court last Friday fined six people a total of 18 million cedis for illegal lotto operations.

They all pleaded guilty to the charge.

They are Frank Bonsu, 37, Dennis Ahenu, 24, Dwomoh Sarpong, 31, Akwasi Agyapong, 28, Julius Fantam, 38, and Akwasi Owusu, 26. Police Chief Inspector Agnes Dinkyini told the court that the police task force and some other personnel embarked on exercises in the Kumasi metropolis to help check illegal lotto operations.

He said on January 27, this year, at about 1900 hrs, the special task force arrested the accused persons during one of its operations staking banker-to-banker on plain sheets of paper.

Chief Inspector Dinkyini said the accused persons used the results of Asare Original Pay All draws to pay their customers without accounting to the Original Pay All Company.
