Court fines pregnant woman for inflicting wounds on rival

Breman-Asikuma (C/R), Feb. 16, GNA – A 22-year-old pregnant woman, Afua Nyamekye has been fined 1.6 million cedis by the Breman-Asikuma Magistrate Court for inflicting razor blade wounds on the face of one Abena Serwaa.

She pleaded guilty for causing bodily harm.

The court presided over by Mr Akwasi Asmah Asiedu ordered that 1.3 million cedis of the amount should be given to Serwaa as compensation while 300,000 goes into government coffers.

Nyamekye inflicted the wounds on Serwaa on December 13, last year, when she saw her watching television in her matrimonial home. Serwaa who collapsed through excessive bleeding was admitted at the Breman-Asikuma Catholic Hospital.

Nyamekye was arrested after three days in hiding and was granted 10 million cedis bail.
