Court fines mechanic for driving without license

Nkawie (Ash), Dec 29, GNA – The Nkawie circuit court has fined a 27-year-old mechanic five million cedis for various traffic offences. They included driving without license, careless driving and driving a vehicle without the knowledge of the owner. The mechanic, Kwabena Ben, who pleaded guilty to the charges, will serve 36 months jail term in default. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Joseph Gabienu told the court, presided over by Mr Noble Nkrumah that on September 19, this year, one Mr Stephen Opoku sent his bus to the accused for repair work. He said at about 1700 hours the same day, Mr Opoku, the complainant, went to Ben’s workshop to find out if his vehicle had been repaired.

ASP Gabienu said the complainant did not find either his vehicle or the mechanic for a period of almost one week. The prosecution said an investigation showed that Ben drove the vehicle to Awaduwa, a village near Mankranso in the Ahafo-Ano South district and loaded it with beams. He said the accused then set off for Kumasi and on reaching Atwima-Koforidua he collided with another vehicle and when police got to the scene, they asked him for his driving license but he could not produce it and so he was arrested and charged with the offences.
