Court fines farmer for stealing cooking pot

Mankranso (Ash), Sept. 29, GNA- The Mankranso Magistrate’s court on Tuesday fined a 38-year-old farmer one million cedis for stealing an aluminium cooking pot valued at 200,000 cedis belonging to Madam Afua Amankwaa, a chop bar keeper at Nsuta in Ashanti.

Salisu Mohammed pleaded guilty and he woulod serve a six months in jail in default.

Police Inspector Edwin Dei-Offei told the court that at about 2130 hours on September 16, 2004, the complainant left the pot outside over night to collect rainwater.

He said the next day, the complainant realised that the pot was missing so she informed her husband who is the unit committee chairman of the town who caused a gong-gong to be beaten.

Inspector Dei-Offei said the driver of the vehicle, which the accused boarded and sent the pot to Kumasi heard the gong-gong and handed the accused over to the Abuakwa police.
