Court fines driver GH?1080.00 for careless and inconsiderate driving

A Cape Coast Circuit court on Thursday fined Evans Bassaw, a 38 year-old driver GH¢1,080.00 for knocking down and killing one Mrs Grace Addo on the Roman Church road at Assin Darmang in the Central Region.

Bassaw, who pleaded guilty, however pleaded with the court to be lenient with him.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Charles Anku told the court presided over by Mrs Florence Kai Otu that, on April 29, Bassaw was driving a bus from the Roman Church road towards Assin Darmang township.

He said on reaching a section of the road, Bassaw drove without care and knocked down Madam Grace Addo a trader who was crossing the road from the inner lane to the outer lane.

He said the convict with the assistant of an eye witness managed to send Mrs Addo to the Assin Fosu catholic hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Chief Inspector Anku said the matter was reported to the police and Bassaw was arrested.**
