Court fines driver for fighting, knocking down passenger

A driver charged with careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm has been fined GH¢360 by a magistrate’s court at Akim Oda.

Awal Zakari, who pleaded guilty was fined GH¢360 on the first count and GH¢120 on the second count to run concurrently.

The court, presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor, ordered Zakari to pay an additional GH¢1, 000 as compensation to Mr. Charles Ntiamoah, the victim.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Patience Nyame Darko, said on January 1, Mr. Ntiamoah was on Zakari’s bus travelling from Akim Oda towards Akim Aboabo Zongo.

The convict was speeding and when the victim advised him to reduce the speed he got offended.

They exchanged words and Mr. Ntiamoah alighted from the bus.

Mr. Ntiamoah’s sandals dropped under the bus and in his attempt to retrieve it, Zakari sped-off hitting his leg.

When he was taken to the Akim Oda Government Hospital, he was referred to the Saint Joseph Hospital at Koforidua. Zakari was later arrested.**
