Court fines driver for breach of trust

Assin Fosu (C/R), Aug 15, GNA – The Assin Fosu District magistrate’s court has fined Kwaku Opoku, a driver from Assin Nsuta, the sum of GHc120.00 for fraudulent breach of trust.

In default, Opoku will go to jail for six months.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was ordered by the court to refund GHc30.00 which he fraudulently took from the complainant. Prosecuting, Detective Inspector S. Asamoah, told the court, presided over by Mr Joseph Blay, that sometime in December 2007, the complainant, Kwabena Ofori gave GHc30.00 to the convict to be given to his wife to pay for the treatment of her child who was in hospital. Inspector Asamoah said Opoku absconded with the money until February 2008 when the complainant heard about him and reported the case to the Fosu police.

He said Opoku admitted the offence and pleaded with the police to grant him bail to enable him work and refund the money but he failed to do so.

The court heard that Opoku went into hiding again until May 17 this year when he was arrested.
