Court fines driver for being on the concession of company

A 30-year-old driver, Opoku Mohammed, has been fined 1,200 Ghana cedis by a Tarkwa circuit Court for being on the concession of Goldfields Ghana Limited Tarkwa mine unlawfully.

He pleaded guilty and would in default serve 18 months imprisonment in hard labour.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante, that on November 12 security personnel of the Company were on patrol when they spotted the Opoku with an empty sack.

He said when the security officers questioned him as to what he was doing on the Company’s concession, he could not give any tangible reason and was and handed over to the police.
