Court fines driver eight million cedis for careless driving

Takoradi April 13, GNA- A Takoradi Circuit Court “A”, on Wednesday fined Emmanuel Kofi Darkodzo, a commercial driver eight million cedis for careless driving and negligently causing harm. Darkodzo pleaded not guilty.

The court ordered that five million cedis of the fine should be given to Elizabeth Arthur whom he knocked down.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor said at about 0830 on March 31, last year, the accused who was driving a bus from Takoradi to Anaji knocked down the victim when he failed to stop at a pedestrian crossing near the Effiakuma first bus stop. Chief Inspector Hedidor said Arthur sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital where she was admitted.
