Court fines defrauding landlord

A Half-Assini Magistrate’s court has fined a landlord, Gilbert Kwasi, 32, an amount of GH¢ 360.00, for defrauding by false pretences.

Kwasi, who pleaded guilty with explanation, would in default, serve six months imprisonment in hard labour.

The judge also ordered him to compensate the complainant, Otobil, with GH¢ 550.00.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Robert Owusu told the court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu, that the complainant, Mr Otobil, a health worker, was transferred from Tikobo Number One to Elubo.

He said the complainant paid GH¢ 400.00 as one-year rent advance to the convict but he failed to release the house to him and rather fled from the town.

Chief Inspector Owusu said the complainant lodged a report with the police and Kwasi was arrested and granted bail and as investigation was ongoing, the convict fled again.

The Prosecution said on April 19, the convict was arrested on similar charges and Police investigations revealed that he was the same person who defrauded Otobil.

He was re-arrested and arraigned before the court for prosecution.
