Court fines carpenter for fraud

A Sekondi Magistrate Court, has fined a carpenter GH¢240.00 for attempting to rent an uncompleted building belonging to one Ms Benedicta Osam to unsuspected clients.

Joseph Otoo was convicted on his own plea of defrauding by false pretence and was fined the amount and in default, serve four months prison sentence.

Prosecuting Police Sergeant Francisca Nyarko, told the court presided over Ms Joyce Bamfo that on January 7, the complainant received a telephone call from a friend who inquired if she was the renting the Essaman ridge building.

The Prosecutor said the complainant became alarmed and lodged a complaint at the Regional Office of the Criminal Investigation Department.

She said an arrangement was therefore made to meet the accused for negotiation who claimed he just returned from Spain and needed money to renovate portions of the building.

The accused therefore demanded GH¢80.00 from an interested client for a single room in the presence disguised security officials.

The complainant then appeared on the scene and caused the arrest of the accused who admitted the offence.
