A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District, on Tuesday imposed a fine of 340 Ghana Cedis on a carpenter, who allegedly bit the thumb of Police Constable Richard Gyamfi.
Kwadwo Boateng, who was travelling from Koforidua to Akim Oda with three sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, would go to jail for six months in default.
The convict pleaded guilty to resisting lawful arrest and causing unlawful harm to a security personnel.
The court presided over by Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong, ordered Boateng to pay 100 Ghana Cedis to the police officer as compensation.
Police Inspector Kwaku Appiah told the court that on January 27, this year, Constable Gyamfi and three other police personnel on duty at the barrier on Akim Oda – Accra highway, stopped a bus, which was travelling from Koforidua to Akim Oda.
The prosecution said when the vehicle was searched, three sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found and he claimed ownership of the hemp.
Insp. Appiah said when the police wanted to arrest Boateng when he wanted to abscond, he bit the thumb of Constable Gyamfi.
The accused is yet to be prosecuted for for illegally possessing Wee.
