Court fines brothers for assault

Sekondi, March 20, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Monday imposed a fine of 500,000 cedis each on Charles Cobbina and John Cobbina, two brothers who are farmers, for assaulting a fellow farmer. In default of the fine the brothers would each serve six months imprisonment in hard labour. The court also fined Charles Cobbina one million cedis for unlawfully causing harm or will serve nine months imprisonment in hard labour in default. They pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Christina Abem said Kwaku Nyarko, the complainant and the accused persons were farmers at Komfoeku and share a common farming boundary. She said on March 07 the complainant went to his farm at Ntonton-wara and saw Charles Cobbina weeding a portion of his land. He confronted Charles and a misunderstanding ensued between them.

When Charles returned home from the farm he informed John about the incident and the two went to the house of the complainant and assaulted him and his wife.
