Court fines boyfriend of a hairdresser

Sekondi, Jan 13, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Friday fined Michael Kwofie one million cedis or in default, six months imprisonment in hard labour for assaulting his girlfriend.

In addition, the accused was ordered by the court to pay 500,000 cedis to Florence Kwawu, the girlfriend, to offset her medical expenses or serve three more months imprisonment in hard labour. Kwofie pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Adu Kyeremeh told the court that the accused and Florence, a hairdresser, both lived at Adansi, near Sekondi. He said on November 11 last year, Florence sought permission from the accused to go to Mampong, a nearby village to work for a client. Sergeant Kyeremeh said the accused followed Florence to the village, where he found her naked in the room of a man.

He said the accused became annoyed and brutally assaulted Florence, who later reported the matter to the Police. Sergeant Kyeremeh said the Police gave Florence a medical form for treatment at hospital.

He said later, the Police arrested the accused and charged him with the offence after investigations.
