Court fines assemblyman for causing harm

Mampong (Ash), Nov 17, GNA – Seth Osei Asamoah, the assemblyman for Penteng who bit and chewed the earlobe of Kwame Asamoah Ansah, an umbrella carrier of the Mamponghene, was last Friday fined six million cedis by the Asante-Mampong district court for causing harm.

He pleaded not guilty and will serve a two-year prison term in default.

Asamoah was also bonded over to be of good behaviour for one year.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Ameyaw told the court that in February the assemblyman tried to enter the Amaniampong silver stool palace, while Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Mamponghene, was celebrating ‘Akwasidae’.

He was prevented from entering the palace because he was in a pair of shorts and was bare-chested.

Inspector Ameyaw said this generated into an argument and Ansah, the umbrella carrier, rushed to the scene to maintain peace and order and in the process Asamoah bit off and chewed his earlobe.
