Cape Coast, Feb. 14, GNA – Some 102 persons who were sent to court last year for allegedly failing to repay loans granted them by the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly (CCMA) from the Poverty Alleviation Fund, have been discharged for want of prosecution.
The alleged defaulters reportedly took loans ranging between one million cedis and 5.5 million cedis.
The registrar of the Cape Coast district courts, Mrs Catherine De Souza, told the GNA at Cape coast on Tuesday that her office had filed an ex-parte motion to have the cases struck out and later relist them after a 14-day notice.
She explained that the notice had elapsed without any reaction from officials of the CCMA, prompting the presiding magistrate, Mr Eugene Obeng-Ntim, to strike out the cases.
When contacted, Mr Guy Silo, Municipal Coordinating Director, who had just been transferred to Cape Coast, said he knew nothing about the court cases and that they were not included in the handing over notes of his predecessor.
He directed the GNA to the Presiding Member, Mr Kodwo Anaisie-Yarquah, who also denied knowledge about the court cases. 14 Feb. 06
