Akim Oda, March 13, GNA – Two women who fought each other at the Akim Oda Market were on Monday convicted by the Akim Oda District Magistrate Court. Kande Alimatu, 33, and Dinah Bempong, 39, both traders who were convicted on their own plea of guilty to disturbing public peace, were fined 500,000 cedis each or in default go to jail for six months. The women were also made to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for six months or pay a fine of three million cedis each. They will each go to jail for 12 months in default.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Osei Kwadwo told the court that on November 10, last year, Alimatu reported to the police that while at a store, Dina, without any provocation, attacked her and rained insults on her. A few minutes later, Dina also went to report at the same police station that Alimatu assaulted her. On the spot investigation revealed later that Dinah bit one of Alimatu’s left fingers, while blood was oozing from an old wound on Dinah’s leg, which she alleged was caused by Alimatu. The prosecuting said both of them were issued with medical forms to attend hospital and after investigations, where charged and arraigned before the court.
