Court convicts two people for creating insanitary conditions e

An Akim Oda Magistrate’s Court, has fined two people GH¢150 cedis each for causing insanitary conditions in a drain likely to be injurious to public health.

They are Saika Tanko, a vulcaniser and Esther Yeboah, a hairdresser, who share a kiosk at Nkwantanum, a suburb of Akim Oda in the Birim Central Municipality.

Saika and Esther who were convicted on their own plea would serve three months in jail each in default.

Prosecuting, Mr. Peter Appiah Armah, Environmental Health Officer, told the court presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor, that for some time past, his outfit had been receiving a number of complaints from concern citizens about insanitary conditions in the drain in front of the convicts’ kiosk.

He said a sweeping team from Zoomlion, an environmental sanitation company had complained on several occasions about the insanitary nature of the drain in front of the kiosk, which often attracted insults from Saika.

Mr. Armah said on May 28, Environmental Health officials were on inspection duty at Nkwantanum and spotted the scene leading to the prosecution of the convicts.**
