Court convicts property rate defaulters

Techiman, May 18, GNA – A magistrate’s court in Techiman has fined six persons one million cedis each or in default to go to jail for six months each in hard labour for failing to pay property rate.

The accused persons, Janet Amankwaa, Adwa Agyei, Ahmed Opoku, Yaa Apau, Akwasi Addae and Kwabena Adjei, pleaded guilty to a charge of wilfully refusing to pay property rate to the Techiman Municipal Assembly.

In addition, they will pay their defaulting fee ranging from 10,000 cedis to 81,000 cedis.

Prosecuting Mr. George K. Asamoah, Special Prosecutor for the Techiman Municipality, told the court that the accused persons defaulted in the payment of property rates approved by the Techiman Municipal Assembly.
