Court convicts driver for stealing lorry tyres

Kumasi, Sept 22, GNA- A Kumasi circuit court on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old driver to six months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing four heavy-duty lorry tyres belonging to Mr Osei Bonsu, a trader.

Yaw Adjei pleaded guilty.

His accomplice, one Kudi, is on the run.

Police Chief Inspector Agnes Dinkyini told the court that sometime in November last year, at about 1930 hours, Adjei and his accomplice went to Bremang, a suburb of Kumasi to look for a friend. She said on their way back, Kudi suggested to the accused that they should steal the tyres of a vehicle that had been parked at a place.

Chief Inspector Dinkyini said when they finished removing the tyres, a security man who was monitoring them, raised an alarm but they managed to escape.

She said two weeks later, the accused was identified, arrested and handed over to the police. 22 Sept. 04
