Court compelled to grant an accused person bail

Cape Coast, March 4, GNA- A Circuit Court in Cape Coast was on Friday compelled to grant a 10 million-cedi bail to a butcher, Ibrahim Issah charged with possessing stolen livestock, since the authorities at the Ankaful prison refused him custody because of an infected fracture on his left leg.

Issah, whose left leg was in a plaster of Paris'(P.O.P), appeared before the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh on Wednesday, with two accomplices, Joseph Sewornu and Kweku Yeboah.

The three were remanded in custody to reappear on Friday. The prosecution said on March 1, police personnel at the Moree junction check point intercepted a taxicab carrying the accused persons and nine live goats and four sheep.

When the accused persons were asked where they acquired the animals they could not give tangible explanation and were subsequently arrested. The police refused to accept a 100 thousand cedis bribe from Issah to drop the case.
