Court commends Spiritualist for exposing thief

A Circuit Court in Accra, has lauded the efforts of one Togbe Amuzu, witness in a stealing case and a Spiritualist of Great International Temple-Gbetsile near Michel Camp for his honesty.

Togbe Amuzu was consulted by Isaac Obenu, a driver’s mate and a house boy for spiritual help after stealing his master’s money, totaling 6,000 dollars. The spiritualist however informed the complainant about Obenu’s action.

The court presided over by Ms Ellen V. Amoah commended Togbe Amuzu, after sentencing Obenu to three years imprisonment for stealing. Obenu, 21, pleaded guilty. Passing the sentence, the court said it took into account Obenu’s youthful age expressing hope that he would engage in serious retrospection of his kleptomania conducts in prison.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Michael Jubiok said the complainant resides at Japan Motor, near lake side Estate at Ashalley Botwe while Obenu, who is a house help to the complainant lives at East Legon. He said for some time now, the complainant had been experiencing petty theft of his dollars which he kept in his drawer in his master’s bedroom.

On June 27, this year, Chief inspector Jubiok said the complainant again lodged 6,000 dollars and other currencies in the same drawer, which was stolen by the convict. When the complainant interrogated the convict he confessed to the crime and asked for time to refund the money.

Prosecution said the complainant contacted Togbe Amuzu for spiritual help. On June 30, the complainant reported the matter to the Police and Obenu was arrested by the complainant at Gbetsile.

According to prosecution, 2,700 dollars and GH¢ 4,900 was retrieved from Obenu and handed over to the complainant by the Police.
