Court Bonds Vulture Killer

Koforidua, July 11, GNA – A Magistrate’s court in Koforidua on Monday bonded Kwesi Boafo, a 19-year-old unemployed, to be of good behaviour for one year or in default serve 12 months’ imprisonment for being cruel to a vulture.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Bronya told the court presided over by Mrs Cynthia Wiredu that the complainant was a farmer, who stayed at the Adontehene Palace at Oyoko whilst Boafo resided at Effiduase, near Oyoko, both suburbs of Koforidua.

The Prosecution said on June 30 this year, at about 0800 hours, the Complainant, who was on his way to the Palace saw Boafo at a nearby refuse dump, killing vultures.

Insp. Bronya said when the Complainant confronted Boafo over the killing of the vultures he (Boafo) took to his heels.

The Prosecution said Boafo, who was in procession of the head of a vulture, was chased, arrested and handed over to the Police. Insp. Bronya said Boafo told the Police that he wanted to use the head of the bird for rituals for personal protection.
