Court adjourns Kpoh’s contempt case

Accra, Sept. 6, GNA – An Accra Fast Tract High Court (FTC) on Thursday adjourned ruling of a contempt suit filed against Mr. Napoleon Kpoh, former General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU), to September 10 to allow him to undergo a medical check-up. The court had earlier restrained Mr. Kpoh and Ahmed Y.B. Salifu, National Chairman, from holding themselves out as officers of the Union. Mr. Christoph Kofi Coka, counsel for Mr. Kpoh, stated that his client had notified the court about his excuse duty to be absent from court in order to undergo the check-up.

He said the defendant had also handed over the vehicle and keys to the ICU offices to the court registrar.

Mr Coka said in view of the pending contempt case it was fair and proper that the vehicle and keys were handed over to the court registrar.

Mr Albert Adaare, counsel for the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ICU, prayed the court, presided over by Mr. Justice K.A. Ofori-Atta to enforce its own order by handing over the vehicle and keys to the applicants rather to the registrar.

“My Lord, the court had earlier ordered that the vehicle and the keys to the ICU offices be handed over to the six applicants. We pray that the court enforces its order.”

Mr Adaare also said he received a call from a reliable source last night telling him that Mr. Kpoh would be applying for medical excuse in order not to appear in court on Thursday. He pleaded with the court to investigate the matter since they had their own suspicion about the respondent’s medical excuse. “We are not surprised that this thing has come up in court today,” he stressed. 06 Sept. 07
