Court adjourns case of assault on teacher

Tamale, May 17, GNA – A Tamale High Court on Tuesday adjourned to Monday, May 23, a case in which four men are standing trial for allegedly assaulting a teacher of Our Lady of Fatima Primary School in Tamale.

The case was adjourned to allow the prosecution and the defence counsel to prepare their addresses and to offer the defence lawyer an opportunity to call more witnesses. Last week, primary school teachers in the Tamale Metropolis went on a sit-down strike to demand that the court dealt with case expeditiously.

Tuesday’s adjournment brought to eight the number of times the court has adjourned the case. The prosecution told the court that on March 11, Mr Abdallah Mohammed Iddrisu punished two of his pupils for using vulgar language on each other.

One of the boys he punished, aged 13, went home to report the matter to his father who in turn followed his son to the school accompanied by four men. The men pounced on the teacher and slapped him several times until he fell on a table injuring his chest and right eye.
