Couple Arrested For Alleged Drug Smuggling

A couple who allegedly attempted to smuggle out of the country substances believed to be narcotics has been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.

George Mensah Wilson, 35, and a spare parts dealer allegedly swallowed 45 thumb sized pellets containing a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine. His wife, Julie Wilson Prah, a businesswoman 39, tried to export 3.4 kilogrammes of a substance suspected to be cannabis, which she concealed in a secret compartment of her clothing.

Former KIA security officer Justice Kwame Fokuo, who allegedly assisted the couple in their attempt to board their flight by using his expired pass to gain entry into restricted areas of the airport, was also arrested.

A close source at the Narcotics Control Board told the paper that the couple was arrested on January 20 while attempting to board a flight to Tokyo via Cairo.
