Council of state polls successful – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has described the election of the regional representatives to the Council of State across the country as successful. The EC on Thursday, February 16, 2017, held regional elections for membership of the Council.

The Head of Communications of the EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu speaking in an interview on Starr Today with Naa Dedei Tetteh on Thursday said: “Most of the regions have successfully conducted this election and we are just waiting for official results from all the regions.”

That notwithstanding, he said the exercise had faced some challenges which delayed voting in some of the centres.

But the voting exercise, he added was “very good, orderly, peaceful and the delegates were in place, our officials too were in place, security was at hand and everything went on successfully as far as the regions that conducted their elections are concerned. I think so far so good.”

In all, 113 people filed for the Council of State election, with the youngest aspirant, aged 23, from the Eastern Region; while an 84-year-old contestant from the Western Region was the oldest aspirant.

Out of the total number of contestants, 107 of them were men, while the remaining six were women.
