Council of State opens book of condolence for Awoonor

The Council of State has opened a book of condolence for the late Professor Kofi Nyivedu Awoonor, a former Chairman of the Council.

Prof Awoonor, aged 78, was killed last Saturday after al-qaeda-linked al-Shabab terrorists besieged the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi, Kenya. He was then with his son, Afetsi Awoonor, who survived gunshot wounds sustained in the attack.

A statement issued by the Council and signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Jemima Nancy Asare, said the decision was taken in consultation with the family of the late Ghanaian poet.

The book can be accessed from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm daily at the Council’s secretariat, the statement mentioned.

The late Prof. Awoonor is expected to be “buried” on Thursday, October 3, 2013 after a “strictly” private funeral rite.
