Ahwiaa (Ash), Dec 28, GNA- The Ahwiaa-Meduma Local Council of Churches will as from early next year embark on a programme under which member churches will train and equip the youth with employable skills. Mr Charles Osei Gyamfi, assistant secretary of the churches, who disclosed this, said beneficiaries of such training schemes would be assisted with some capital to start small enterprises.
He said this after member churches of the council had spent over three hours in a clean-up exercise at Ahwiaa and the Meduma communities near Kumasi on Saturday as part of the council’s end-of-year development programme.
Mr Gyamfi said the decision by the council to give priority to training of youth to acquire vocational and technical skills, stems from the fact that most of them were unemployed because of lack of skilled training.
He said the council would also impress on member churches to use their pulpits to inculcate in parents the need to support their children to acquire formal education to a higher level.
Mr Anthony Atta Kusi, financial secretary of the council, said the council is to institute measures to ensure that all member churches make provision for the position of trustees in the management and running of churches.
He explained that the move is to ensure that churches are efficiently managed and become fully accountable to members of the churches.
Mr Kusi appealed to churches, which have not as yet joined the council to do so in order to have a united body.
