Council appeals to government to resolve salary disparities

The Agona West District Council of Labour of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has appealed to the government to address all salary disparities associated with the Single Spine Salary Structure.

It also urged the government to speed up the payment of arrears for up-grading and promotion which had been delayed for about three years now especially in the education and health sectors.

This was contained in a New Year message signed by Mr Francis Odoom, District Chairman of the Council, copied to the Ghana News Agency.

It called on the government to impress upon the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department to take immediate steps to address all payment lapses that affected workers last year.

The council said the situation had impacted negatively on workers and called on government to do its part to alleviate the hardship faced by the affected workers.

The council expressed concern about the deletion of names of some workers from the government pay roll and delays in releasing pay slips adding that it created inconvenience for the workers.

The council entreated workers to work hard and to eschew laziness and other negative tendencies that could affect productivity.
