The festering corruption in the country can totally undermine Ghana’s existence and possibly make it a failed state if nothing drastic is done to check it, a second Deputy Speaker of Parliament has said.
According to Joe Ghartey, the spate of corruption and organised crimes at high levels in the Ghanaian society is staggering.
“…corruption, organised crime, drugs and all of that have the capacity of totally undermining our society and making our society lawless, and making it a failed state,” the Essikado MP told journalists at the second memorial lecture of the late Vice President Aliu Mahama in Accra.
He added: “ We should not underestimate the power of these things, they can totally undermine our existence as a state. No matter how far we go, these things can bring us back”.
In his view, latest surveys that suggest that Ghana is doing well in the world’s corruption index must not delude the country into believing that the fight against corruption is anywhere near closure.
