Corn miller arrested for defilement

Asesewa (E/R), April 21, GNA – The Asesewa Police in the Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region have arrested a 36-year-old corn-miller, David Lamizana, for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl at Akorkoma, a fishing village near Asesewa.

A Police source told the Ghana News Agency that the suspect and the parents of the victim lived in the same house at Akorkoma and that on April 4, this year, the parents left the victim in the care of one of their sisters to enable them go fishing.

The source said the suspect took advantage of the absence of the parents and invited the victim into his room on the pretext of sending her to buy some food for him but instead, sexually assaulted her. It said the victim started crying, which compelled other children who were playing in the house to report to an elderly woman in the house.

The source said when the woman knocked at the door of the suspect he refused to open but instead he escaped through the window. A report was made to the police and Lamizana was arrested when he attempted to board a canoe to cross to the other bank of the river. Meanwhile, a medical form had been issued to the victim to be sent to the Asesewa Government hospital for examination.
