The Western Regional Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Patrick S. Wayoe has expressed concern about widespread cheating in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Region.
He said reports reaching the examination desk from his monitoring team indicated that candidates, supervisors and invigilators were all colluding to cheat in the examinations in almost 46 centers.
Mr. Wayoe disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Sekondi on Monday.
The WAEC Controller cited the Sefwi-Wiaso area where his monitoring team detected the examination malpractices to be the worst in the Region.
He said the sub-regional examination had taken off smoothly in all the 46 centers made up of 56 second-cycle schools numbering 18,555 candidates in the Western Region.
According to Mr. Wayoe, the council had taken serious note of the examination malpractices in the WASSCE and warned candidates to refrain from the habit.
He also appealed to invigilators, school heads and external supervisors to allow their conscience, moral and ethical values to govern the conduct of the examination to avoid the cancellation of the examination.
Mr. Wayoe told the GNA that examination malpractices usually encouraged laziness on the part of students and could have dire consequences on self-actualization and national development.
