Accra, Oct. 22, GNA – The Minister of Roads and Transport, Dr. Richard Anane on Wednesday gave the assurance that the rehabilitation and completion of roads that were delayed by the rains would be completed on schedule.
The Minister said this when he appeared before Parliament to answer a number of questions posed by Members concerning road projects in their constituencies.
Mr James Adusei-Sarkodie, NPP-Nwabiagya asked the Minister when the road from Akropong to the Owabi Head Works would be rehabilitated and the Minister said engineering studies and design have been completed in June this year for its surface dressing later this year. Dr Anane said the 4.5-kilometre gravel road is in poor condition and is an important link to the Ghana Water Company’s Head Works that provides water for the Kumasi Metropolis and its environs that needs urgent attention.
Mr. Paul Okoh, NPP- Asutifi North in a related development asked the Minister about what plans the Ministry has to rehabilitate the Akwasiase to Goaso section of the Tepa Junction to Goaso Road. Dr Anane said the 44-kilometre road in the Brong Ahafo Region is paved and the contract for the sectional rehabilitation of six kilometers were awarded in April this year for completion by December this year.
He said the works involved are, rehabilitation of the bad sections, topping with base material and surfacing, while patching of potholes on the remaining 38 kilometres of the road forms part of the programme, adding that the works slowed down because of the rains.
Mr. James Adusei-Sarkodie, NPP- Atwima-Nwabiagya in another question asked the Minister if there are plans to rehabilitate and tar the road from Kwadaso through the Military Complex, Nyankyereniase, Bokankye and Eases in the Kumasi and Atwima Districts of Ashanti.
Dr. Anane said the first section from Asuoyeboa on the Sunyani Road to Nyankyereniase town has been awarded for rehabilitation and when completed, it would offer a complete paved road that will divert traffic away from the Military Barracks.
He said the Nyankyereniase to Esase to Akropong section however, was graded early this year to make it motorable and it has been awarded on contract for surface dressing.
