Contractors in Bolgatanga give ultimatum for payment of contract works

Bolgatanga, Nov. 9, GNA – Contractors who were engaged by the Ministry of Education to reconstruct schools that were affected by the 2007 Northern floods, have given ultimatum for the payment of their contract certificate money.

They have therefore given the Ministry up to November 20, to give them their money or explain the circumstances leading to the delay in the payment of the World Bank sponsored project.

The Spokesperson for the contractors in the Upper East Region, Mr. Abdulai Abugre John who addressed a press conference in Bolgatanga, said members contracted loans from the financial institutions to execute the projects and were being harassed for repayment.

He said interest rates on the loans were rising and all efforts to get the money paid to them had proved futile.

Mr John said 36 projects, including six classroom blocks and an early childhood development centre were executed.
