Accra, May 15, GNA – An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Monday remanded in custody a 42-year-old contractor charged with causing unlawful damage and threatening.
Joseph Quartey pleaded guilty to causing unlawful damage and he was convicted but sentence was deferred. He, however, pleaded not guilty to threatening and will reappear on May 16. The tribunal, chaired by Mrs Elizabeth Anderson Yebuah, said it would move to the scene on Tuesday to inspect the extent of damage caused.
Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Florence Arday said the complainant, Mr Solomon Quartey, an auto mechanic, and Joseph are brothers who live in their late father’s house at Danquah Circle in Accra. He said the complainant, who was building a house on a piece of land where they
Live, was told by the accused that he had no right to initiate the project. The prosecutor said at about 2300 hours on April eight, this year, the accused, who claimed that the plot was their property, pulled down the building.
The cost of construction at the time was estimated at 1.2 million cedis. The accused also broke a bottle and threatened to stab the complainant.
