Contractor jailed for stealing and causing damage

Clement Amoah, a 31 year-old contractor working with Kansco Ghana Limited, a subsidiary Company of Goldfields Ghana Limited (GGL), Tarkwa mine, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for stealing cables belonging to the company and causing damage.

He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that the complainant is a security officer of GGL, Tarkwa Mine.

He said at about 0140 hours on September 4 this year, the complainant who was on duty at Conveyer Eight, saw the accused and stopped him to find out what he was doing.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said on seeing the complainant, Amoah concealed something under some packed roofing sheets but the complainant become suspicious and began searching the area.

He said in the course of the search, the complainant found a cut cable concealed under a rubber and he brought it out.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said immediately Amoah saw that the complainant has retrieved the stolen item, he pleaded for forgiveness but he was arrested and was handed over to the police together with the exhibit.
