Contract terminated for delays at Breman Asikuma

Breman Asikuma (C/R), July 15, GNA – Contract awarded to D’pong Construction Company Limited based in Achimota in Accra to re-surface and tar streets in Breman Asikuma town, have been terminated due to the inability of the contractor to complete the work funded by HIPC funds on schedule.

Mr P. C. Appiah-Ofori, Member of Parliament for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, disclosed this at a sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of an ICT complex centre at Breman Asikuma in the Central Region.

He said the contract was awarded last year and was to be completed in September 2005, but the contractor failed to do so, he then appealed for extension of period to November 2005, which was approved, yet he failed again to complete the job.

Mr Appiah-Ofori explained that, up to date, work done so far by the contractor on the road was about 50 per cent. This he said had caused havoc to both motorist and pedestrians in the town.

He stated further that, in consultation with Mr Emmanuel Ajei Domson, District Chief Executive and the District Assembly had no other choice but to request for the termination of the contract. He assured them of a new contractor, who would take over the job very soon and asked the people to patient and cooperate with the new contractor when he did come.
