Contempt charges filed against Dr Mahama and six others

Accra, April 9, GNA – Motion on notice for an order for committal for contempt order, has been filed against Dr Edward Mahama and six other leading members of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), at the Adjabeng District Court in Accra.

The PNC members were sited for flouting the order of the court says a document made available to the Ghana News Agency on Saturday. The six leading members are: Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan; Bernard Monah; Attik Mohamed; Alhaji Baba Mohamed, Colonel George Luri Bayorbor and Abraham Kaba..

The suit filed by Law Alert Group on behalf of the applicants 96 Dr Somtim Tobiga, Ahmed Jatoh, and Abu Seidu Baba Gana indicates that: 93the respondents and each and every one of them had knowledge of the order restraining the applicants, assigns and party members from staying in or occupying the party headquarters until the final determination of the matter still pending at the District Magistrate Court, Adjabeng”.

“The Respondent disregarded the said order and organised a fighting mob=85 stormed the party headquarters building and held a life televised press conference therein which was broadcast to the whole country in mockery of the said order.

The applicants said, “the conduct of the respondents as described herein amounts to the showing of gross disrespect and disregard to the authority and prestige of this honourable court and has brought the administration of justice into disrepute and should be held and punished accordingly for contempt of court as a lesson to others, that Ghana is a Republic under the rule of law and that no body is above the law”.

An affidavit in support of the motion for contempt of court was filed by Mr David Apasara former Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga and PNC National Treasurer.
