Consultants and surgeons withdraw services at KATH

Consultants and surgeons at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), have withdrawn their services over unpaid allowances.

The striking doctors claimed allowances due them had been outstanding for the past eight months.

Their Spokesman, Dr. Frank Kobiah, said they would return to perform clinical services only after they had been paid.

He said he and his colleagues were forced to take that line of action after persistent appeals to the Health Ministry had gone unheeded and remained unfulfilled.

The strike by the senior doctors could have dire ramifications on health care delivery at the facility and is fueling anxiety among both out-patients and in-patients.
