Constitutional week launched in Awutu-Senya district

Awutu Beraku (C/R), May 5, GNA – The Omankrado of Awutu Traditional Area, Nai Dr. Kwao Kurabi II has appealed to the government to make the constitution available in the open market and its price reduced to enable majority of the people have access to it. He said this will make it possible for Ghanaians to read and know their rights and responsibilities, and offer their contribution towards the development of the nation.

Nai Dr Kurabi made the appeal when he launched the 10th Annual Constitution week celebration at Awutu Beraku on Tuesday. The program which is under the theme, “Enhancing constitutionalism, through effective citizen’s participation for good governance”, is being organised by the Awutu Senya District Secretariat of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE).

During the weeklong celebration, staff of NCCE will visit communities, market places, churches, schools and organise durbars to sensitize the people on provision in the constitution. The Omankrado entreated the personnel of the Commission to extend their programme to the rural people who in most cases are unable to have access to the constitution.

Mr Nuhun Adams, District Chief Executive, in a massage read for him, stressed the need for the people to get a copy of the constitution, to guide them in all endeavours. Mr Paul Kwame Acquah, Awutu-Senya District Director of NCCE, said the commission will educate the public to understand and defend the constitution at all times.

He therefore appealed to all to cooperate with them to ensure the success of the programme. Neenyi Kwesi Sei Anderson, Chairman of the District Africa Peer Review Oversight Committee, who chaired the function, said his outfit will partner the NCCE to educate the public to understand the constitution. 5 May 10
