Consider NSS traffic wardens in Police recruitment – NASPA

The National Service Personnel Association(NASPA) says National Service Personnel under the Urban Traffic model ought to be considered in the recruitment into the Ghana Police Service insisting that personnel have a better understanding of Police work hence must be given special priority among other entrants.

“Personnel under the urban traffic model go through weeks of intensive training at the Police Training School in Traffic management, security, accident scene management among others. They work side by side Policemen throughout the stipulated national service period. By regulations of the National Service Scheme, their work is regulated monthly by supervisors and reports sent to various NSS secretariats, It is this system that we ask the Police administration to consider strongly when recruiting personnel particularly for the motor Traffic and Transport Unit(MTTU) of the Police Service.”

The position of NASPA comes on the back of claims by the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, Supt Cephas Arthur that the only advantage any of the personnel interested in being a Police officer will have is when there is a Police exam to be written.

“…because they have worked with the Police Service they may have a better understanding and knowledge of Police work. That is the edge they may have over the others.”

But the Association in a statement believes this is a tacit admission by the Police administration of the fact that Service Personnel under the urban traffic module have a better understanding and knowledge of Police work, hence deserve special priority and treatment when it comes to Police recruitment.
