Confusion at NDC Odododiodioo delegates conference

Accra, Nov 18, GNA – Confusion broke out over list of delegates submitted by the Odododiodioo National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman, Mr Daniel Okai during the elections of both Women and Youth Organisers’ to the Electoral Commission officials at their Delegates Conference on Friday in Accra.

Tempers of supporters of both the aspiring Women Organiser, Madam Aishetu Yahaya and the Youth Organiser, Mr Bobby Hammond flared up and they demanded that the old list used in conducting the late MP’s primaries should be used instead of a new one presented by the Chairman. The contestants said the old list had 124 cells operating in the constituency and accused the Constituency Chairman, Mr Daniel Okai as having created 22 ne w cells for the number to rise to 146 cells without their knowledge.

They suspected that the new list of delegates had been blotted to favour the incumbents Miss Eunice Laryea and Nii Teiko Tackie and this generated the confusion among their supporters.

The timely intervention of the James Town Police calm tempers down for the election to go on but that didn’t satisfy the delegates. Electoral Commission Officer, Mr. Nat Quaye called for both the new and the old list and held a meeting with both factions and the Police for amicable settlement but that failed.

Mr Quaye had no other alternative and called off the elections to enable the Chairman to streamline the issues.

When the GNA asked the Chairman why the creation of new cells at this crucial hour, he said, the NDC constitution allows recruitment of more members, adding, “what is wrong if I had recruited new members and created cells for them to organise themselves?”

He observed that everybody in the party is very important and nobody should make a mistake to oust any personality from the party. Mr Okai said this was the time the party supporters needed to put aside their personal differences and help ensure victory in the 2008 elections. Nov. 18 05
